THE SHORT ANSWER

Gently blot or lift the excess without scrubbing.

Why denim changes the answer

Indigo-dyed denim can lose colour under forceful treatment. A gentle first move is more sensible than vigorous scrubbing. Grass stains may respond to a suitable laundry pretreatment on washable fabrics.

A careful step-by-step approach

  1. 1

    Pre-treat the green mark

Use an enzyme-containing laundry pre-treatment only if it is approved for the fabric. Follow the label; do not scrub roughly.

  2. 2

    Rinse thoroughly

Rinse out the pre-treatment as instructed before laundering. Do not combine products.

  3. 3

    Launder, then inspect

Wash using the garment’s care label and the cleaner’s instructions. Turn inside out for washing if the label permits, to help reduce visible fading. Check the mark before drying; repeat a compatible treatment if needed. Air-dry until it is gone.

What not to do

  • Do not tumble-dry or iron before checking that the stain is gone.
  • Do not mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia or other cleaning products.
  • Do not skip a hidden-area colourfastness test when using a cleaner.
Stop condition: Stop if the care label forbids wet cleaning, dye transfers, the fabric weakens, or the mark worsens.

What if it already dried?

Enzyme products are not appropriate for every fibre; check the care label. A dried stain can require different handling and may be less responsive to treatment. Our tool generates a separate plan that accounts for timing while preserving the same material safeguards.
